Automation Project Lead
InterLink Engineering, LLC supports a wide variety of industries with a primary focus on product development, reverse engineering, and design for manufacturing support. Our capabilities allow us to support our customers by either performing engineering tasks at our facility or at our customer sites as required.
We’re looking for a mid-level Automation Designer/ Project Lead with experience in manufacturing or product development to join our internal team at InterLink. A successful designer in this role will lead small teams, manage multiple projects, and drive mechanical and automation solutions from concept through production launch.
Responsibilities:
Design new products from scratch and make improvements to existing products using SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD)
Quickly transform ideas and rough sketches of designs into 3D models, then into working detailed 2D engineering drawings in SolidWorks
Lead small teams, promote collaboration, and drive projects to successful completion
Construct, assemble, and test prototypes, incorporating design changes and supporting procurement activities
Analyze data, review drawings for completeness, and conduct design reviews with product management and suppliers to gain final approval
Support Lean and Quality initiatives to reduce variability in designs
Assist with product launches in a production environment through installation, manual writing, training, and quality inspections to meet acceptance tests (SAT & FAT)
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve product, process, or automation equipment issues
Physical Requirements:
Communicate effectively in spoken and written English (Constantly)

Operate computer and CAD system efficiently (Frequently)
Required Characteristics:
Ability to problem-solve, particularly utilizing Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
Highly proficient in SolidWorks, with a solid understanding of project management and Bill of Materials (BOM) management
Working knowledge of mechanical systems, fasteners, and manufacturing methods
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or similar field
At least 3 years’ experience beyond school
Hands-on experience in manufacturing automation systems and equipment building, with a strong understanding of automation principles, including wiring, vision systems, and controls
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a production environment
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate team members and drive projects through to efficient completion
Local, Greater Phoenix resident with reliable transportation
Proficient in Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Preferred Characteristics:
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices
Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience building prototypes and using hand and power tools
Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP)
Certified in ASME Y14.100 and ASME-Y14.5 GD&T drawing and tolerance standards
Motivated, self-starter with the ability to learn quickly
Experienced in CFD Analysis
Experienced in Surfacing or plastic design
Experienced in Tool and fixture design
Able to multitask and function in a production environment
Experienced with medical, DoD, vehicle, or aerospace product and manufacturing development
