Lead Mechanical Designer

We are currently looking for a Lead Mechanical Designer experienced designing with sheet metal, enclosures, and designing for tight spaces. This is a direct hire position with our customer located in Tolleson, AZ where they specialize in something like custom metal/plastic reusable industrial-grade packaging, using SolidWorks.

This position’s ideal budget is between 75-90k/yr, depending on related experience level and what someone new brings to the team. They offer company-sponsored health insurance, 401k with company matching, regular holidays, and PTO.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design new products from scratch and make improvements to existing products using SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD) under the guidance of Engineering Management

  • Quickly transform ideas and rough sketches of designs into 3D models

  • Create detailed 2D drawings of parts and assemblies for manufacturing

  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams

  • Aide in the procurement, construction, and testing of prototypes and new products

  • Analyze data, review drawings for completeness, and conduct design reviews with customers, product management, and suppliers

  • Help management in project management and through the support of the design team

  • Support Lean and Quality initiatives to reduce variability in designs

  • Assist with product launches in a production environment through installation, manual-writing, training, and quality inspections

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to sit for long periods of time (Frequently)

  • Able to effectively operate CAD system (Constantly)

  • Able to communicate effectively in all media (Constantly)

 

Required Characteristics:

  • Highly proficient in SolidWorks, with a solid understanding of project management and Bill of Materials

  • Knowledgeable in common metal fabrication and processes of designing with sheet metal

  • Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, or equivalent experience

  • Strong organizational and communication skills 

  • Ability to network with associates in other departments to find needed information

  • Respectful of scheduled time

  • Ability to pickup industry-specific terms, challenges, and solutions quickly

  • Must be a local Greater Phoenix resident with reliable transportation for getting to and from work in the Buckeye area

  • Proficient in MS Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

 

Preferred Characteristics:

  • *Experience designing or building cabinets, enclosures, or custom-fit pieces

  • Certified SolidWorks Professional

  • Capable of tolerance stacks and analysis

  • Knowledge of Lean practices

  • Ability to multi-task and function in a production environment

  • Motivated, self-starter with the ability to learn quickly
