Building Engineering Teams That Work
Recruiting at InterLink Engineering
Finding the right engineer or designer is not always easy, especially when timelines are tight, expectations are high, and project needs continue to shift. At InterLink Engineering, recruiting has become a natural extension of the work we do every day. We know what good talent looks like because we have worked alongside it. Whether we are hiring for our own team or helping a customer grow theirs, our goal is the same: connect skilled, thoughtful people with opportunities that move everyone forward.
Hiring with Heart and Purpose
At InterLink Engineering, hiring has always been about more than just filling a role. Each resume represents a person with unique goals, experiences, and potential. Over the years, we have had the chance to connect with many engineers and designers, including those just graduating, those navigating career changes, and others who are simply looking for a new challenge. We value these conversations and try to approach each one with care. Even if we are not able to move forward right away, we focus on understanding the person behind the resume and keeping them in mind for roles where their strengths can truly shine.
Even though we can’t place every candidate immediately, many of the conversations we start today lead to opportunities down the line. Between attending SolidWorks User Group events and working with a wide range of customers, we often stay in touch with engineers and designers as their careers evolve. The Valley may feel large, but in practice, it’s a tight-knit community. We have seen many instances where a connection made months ago becomes the right fit when the timing aligns.
That’s why we make an effort to keep resumes on hand and relationships active. When a project comes up or a client has a new opening, we often already have someone in mind who could be a great match.
A Wide Range of Skills
Every engineer or designer we meet brings something different to the table. One might be a CAD expert who moves through complex SolidWorks models with ease. Another might be energized by weldments, surfacing, or the creative possibilities of 3D printing. Some are detail-oriented drafters who bring precision to every drawing, while others excel in hands-on environments where testing, troubleshooting, and quick adjustments are part of the daily rhythm.
We have met engineers who have spent years perfecting sheet metal assemblies, designing parts for injection molding, or building robust HVAC and piping systems. Some have led teams, managed design documentation, or introduced lean processes that make a department run more smoothly. Others bring a strong mechanical intuition that helps them troubleshoot and problem-solve in real time.
No two roles require the same exact combination of skills. Some projects need a true specialist. Others call for someone who can pivot between tasks and wear several hats. Our role is to understand the technical needs, the project goals, and the team dynamics so we can connect the right person with the right opportunity at just the right moment.
How Our Hiring Process Works
When we identify a potential fit, the first step is a conversation. We want to make sure the interest is mutual, the timing is right, and the opportunity aligns with both the candidate’s goals and the client’s needs. Finding that balance early helps ensure a stronger match and a smoother path forward for everyone involved.
One of the first things we check for is SolidWorks experience. In most of our projects, designers need to be able to work efficiently and with minimal ramp-up time. If SolidWorks is not already part of someone’s workflow, it can be difficult for them to keep up with fast-paced project demands. Because of that, we often follow up with a short CAD test. This gives us a chance to evaluate modeling skills, but also how the person approaches a task and organizes their work.
If that goes well, we move forward with a more in-depth interview. This gives us a chance to better understand the candidate’s background, strengths, and what kind of environment helps them do their best work. If everything aligns, we share their information with the client so they can review and decide if they would like to move forward with an interview of their own. From there, we help coordinate the next steps to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
What Makes InterLink Different
InterLink is not a staffing agency. We are a team of engineers who know what good engineering looks like. We have worked under pressure, managed complex projects, and collaborated with teams across different industries. That experience gives us a unique lens when it comes to identifying talent.
We understand how important culture and workflow are to team success. That’s why we take the time to get to know both our candidates and our customers. Whether we are placing someone from our internal team on a client site or helping a company build a team of their own, our approach is always centered on people and relationships.
Why Flexibility Matters
One of the things we appreciate most about recruiting is the flexibility it provides for everyone involved. Engineers and designers can explore different industries, gain experience across a variety of projects, and grow faster than they might in a single long-term role. It’s also a great way to build confidence, try new tools, and discover where they work best.
For companies, flexibility means being able to bring in highly skilled people when they are needed most. It keeps projects moving, helps balance workloads, and allows teams to scale without unnecessary overhead. It also gives companies the option to get to know someone before making a long-term commitment.
At InterLink, our own team members benefit from this model as well. They are exposed to a wide range of industries, workflows, and challenges. While our goal is to hire for the long term, we also celebrate when one of our engineers finds an opportunity to grow through a client relationship. For many, contract work becomes the stepping stone to something bigger.
